Antalya

Antalya is the largest city on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast and one of the country’s top tourist destinations. It blends modern city life with beaches, ancient ruins, and dramatic landscapes. It’s more urban than Fethiye or Marmaris, with a population over a million.

What it’s known for:

• Old Town (Kaleici): A maze of narrow cobblestone streets, Ottoman houses, boutique hotels, and bars — all enclosed by ancient city walls. The Roman-era Hadrian’s Gate is the iconic entrance.

Beaches:

• • Konyaalti Beach (long, pebbly, mountain views, closer to downtown)

  • Lara Beach (sandy, resort-heavy area, east of the city)

• History and Ruins: Close to major ancient cities like Perge, Aspendos (with a stunning Roman theater still in use), Termessos, and Side.

• Antalya Museum: One of the best in Turkey, especially if you’re into ancient sculptures and Lycian artifacts.

• Waterfalls: Duden and Kursunlu waterfalls are easily reachable and great for short nature breaks.

• Luxury resorts: Especially in Lara and Belek, where many of the high-end, all-inclusive beachfront hotels are located.

• Taurus Mountains: Just inland, great for hiking, cable cars, and scenic drives.

The vibe: A mix of culture, tourism, and real city life. More cosmopolitan than smaller coastal towns, with upscale restaurants, malls, and a growing expat community. It’s also a hub for both domestic and international flights.

Best time to visit: Spring and fall are ideal (April–June, September–October). Summers are hot but manageable if you’re near the sea or in a resort.
