The Ebul Menucehr Mosque, located in the ancient ruins of Ani, is one of the most historically significant landmarks in Eastern Turkey. Originally built as a Christian church, the structure was later converted into a mosque following the Seljuk conquest of Ani. It is considered the first mosque ever built in Anatolia, marking the arrival of Islam in the region.
The mosque features a combination of Islamic and Armenian architectural elements, blending cultural influences.
Despite the destruction that befell Ani, the mosque remains one of the best-preserved structures in the city, symbolizing the transition of Ani from an Armenian Christian capital to a multicultural center under Islamic rule.
