Named After Pine Trees
The name “Camlica” comes from the Turkish word “Cam” (Pine), referring to the dense pine forests that once covered the hill.
These forests existed since Roman & Byzantine times.
A Royal Hunting Ground & Ottoman Retreat
Ottoman Sultan Murat IV used Camlica as his summer retreat and hunting lodge.
Later, Selim III converted it into a leisure and training ground for falconry.
The tomb of Ivaz Fakih, a famous bird trainer, remains on the hilltop today.
