The Significance of Quinn’s Post
⚔️ Established on April 25, 1915, the same day ANZAC troops landed at Gallipoli.
💀 One of the most dangerous locations on the battlefield, as it was the most advanced ANZAC post.
🛡️ Viciously fought over between ANZAC and Turkish forces, as it controlled access to Monash Valley & Shrapnel Valley.
⚔️ Heavily attacked by the Ottoman 57th Regiment, which referred to the post as Bomba Sırt (Bomb Ridge) due to constant grenade battles.
Captain Hugh Quinn & The Battle for the Post
🪖 Named after Australian officer Captain Hugh Quinn, who commanded the post.
📅 May 29, 1915 – Quinn was killed in battle when Turkish forces temporarily seized the post.
⚰️ Buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, one of Gallipoli’s many solemn burial sites.
🔁 The post was occupied by both New Zealand & Australian forces throughout the campaign until the ANZAC retreat in October 1915.
