🍽️ Gaziantep is a city rich in history and culture, but it also takes great pride in preserving the everyday traditions of its ancestors. The Kitchen Museum, also known as the Cuisine Museum, offers a deep dive into the region’s world-famous culinary heritage, which has been recognized as a UNESCO-listed gastronomic city.
🏛️ The museum is housed in a historical home that once belonged to Turkey’s first tourism minister. After returning to his childhood city and noticing the deterioration of his family’s old home, he purchased the building and donated it, with the specific request that it be transformed into a museum dedicated to Gaziantep’s cuisine and Turkish lifestyle.
⏳ Though the minister’s donation was made early on, it took 15 years for the museum to finally open its doors.
🎉 It was inaugurated on the 87th anniversary of Gaziantep’s liberation from French occupation, making its opening a symbol of cultural pride and resilience.
👩🍳 The museum was named in honor of Emine Göğüş, the minister’s mother, who was renowned for her skill in the kitchen and dedication to family.
