The Tumulus Tomb of Karakus, located on Karadag Mountain, was built by Mithridates II, son of Antiochus I, as a burial site for his mother. Over time, other female members of his family were also interred there. One of the pillars outside the tomb is topped with a black stone eagle, symbolizing the site’s name—Karakus, meaning “blackbird” in Turkish.
